  17. <p>     Nothing's more nettlesome to a politician than a wife who
  18. gets more press attention than he does. Perhaps that is why
  19. Brazilian President FERNANDO COLLOR DE MELLO has been appearing
  20. in public recently without a wedding band...or his
  21. 26-year-old second wife Rosane. Last week the Sao Paulo-based
  22. newsmagazine Veja featured photos of the scantily clad First
  23. Lady, noting presidential pique with her high-profile antics.
  24. Fernando, observers speculate, jettisoned the ring in order to
  25. distance himself from rumors about his wife's alleged
  26. mishandling of funds for a government-sponsored charity. Rosane,
  27. however, professes marital loyalty and wants to start a family.
